Data Systems Manager

Student Success California is a state affiliate of 50CAN – a national advocacy group committed to making sure all children can attend great schools staffed by great teachers. The California affiliate of 50CAN was first established by StudentsFirst, the advocacy group established by Michelle Rhee in 2010. StudentsFirst merged with 50CAN in July 2016.

We have accumulated a database of more than 25,000 Californians who have taken some positive action in support of improving our education system over the last few years. We need to enhance that database and continue to add contacts to it. We want to dramatically improve our data capacity so that we can strengthen our advocacy efforts and generate revenue.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Manager would develop and manage our data strategy, as well as serve as the point person for all data projects and vendors. The DM would also be responsible for developing dashboard systems to track progress toward organizational goals and for training our grassroots leaders and staff in the use of data tools.

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates will possess or be able to easily develop the following skills, knowledge, and attributes:

  • Ability to develop or substantially refine our data strategies – including the collection, analysis and visualization of data.
  • Ability to manage similar datasets and the use of Nation Builder, PDI and other tools.
  • Strong time management, decision-making, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to a collaborative and professional work environment.
  • Commitment to our mission, which is generally to improve our K-12 education system and specifically to improve outcomes for low-income families and communities.

Ideal candidates would also have facility with statistical techniques, statistical modeling and quantitative analysis generally.

We are a small team, so the ideal candidate would be willing to chip in with our other programmatic efforts, especially our advocacy campaigns, communications efforts and policy analysis.

We expect candidates to have a BA or, more likely, an MA in a related field, such as management information systems, computer science, or statistics. This is expected to be a full-time position.

This position will be based out of the Student Success California office in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles. However, much of the work can be done remotely. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. 50CAN offers a comprehensive benefits package.

How to apply:

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to recruitment@50can.org with the subject line “Data Systems Manager.”

50CAN is an equal opportunity employer and we encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply.
